Victory - Blackbridge Biomass Plant plans rejected  2nd July 2018

The reasons given were that the applicant, Egnedol, gave insufficient consideration to marine wildlife and the protected sites, as well as some of the development being outside of the land specified for development in the Local Development Plan. While these are good reasons to reject the application, we were disappointed that neither the Inspector nor the Minister mentioned the lack of sustainability of the biomass and the dangers of explosion from the gasification plant.

One of the problems with fighting these large scale biomass projects is that the overall sustainability of the plant does not appear to be part of the planning considerations. However we believe it is important to continue to put these arguments forward and that they contributed to the doubts about this project and its extravagant green claims.

We will now have to remain vigilant as it is uncertain what Egnedol's plan B maybe.
